FUSE Summer Special: 2022 Our Songs is Back

Following on the success of Our Songs last year. FUSE Darebin are seeking expressions of interest from Darebin-based community choirs, acapella, and/or unamplified musical groups, to perform at Our Songs – celebration of peace, love, and community.  

Our Songs is a series of pop-up performances by a culturally and linguistically diverse mix of music collectives, programmed across sites in Darebin.   

Our Songs 2022 is a FUSE summer special event and keep the spirit of FUSE alive between our Autumn and Spring festivals.  

 Background  

Like last year the aim is to deliver:  

• A new cultural program of culturally and linguistically diverse community choirs sharing songs inspired by the theme: peace, love, and community.  
• Events that feature songs sung in diverse languages by multi-faith and secular choirs and performers.  
• Performances spread across the breadth of the City of Darebin.  
• A COVID-Safe event.  
• Vibrant, live music to support local communities as they emerge from lockdown.   

The theme of peace, love and community is inspired by the idea of our local community coming together in the spirit of reconciliation and harmony at the local neighbourhood level.   

Project Brief  

Dates Proposed: Over two weekends on December 2–4 and weekend of the 8-10. 

Times: To be confirmed.  

Locations: across Darebin- To be announced 

Performance: Groups will only be required to be available for two- three hours of the program.  

Fee: A nominal performance fee will be paid to groups selected to participate.  

The performances will be filmed, edited, and distributed via social media to spread the message of peace, love, and joy across our community. By taking part in Our Songs you must agree to allow images of the event that may contain your group to be used across all media. Page Break  

Are you interested in being part of “Our Songs”?  

Applications will be accepted through an expression of interest to be submitted via email with the following:  

• A short video and/or recording of your choir.  
• A summary of your group and why you should be considered for selection.   
• Your location in Darebin. (Please note only Darebin based groups can apply) 

• Please provide a minimum and maximum number of performers.  
• The languages your group perform in.  
• Social media pages or website if you have any 

Applications should be emailed to fuse@darebin.vic.gov.au by Midnight 31 October 2022.  

Timeline  

• Expression of interest open 18 of October 2022 
• Expressions of Interest close Midnight Monday 31st  of October  
• Successful groups to be notified by 9 November 2022.  
• Our Songs performances will take place Friday 2nd– Sunday 4th December 2022 and Friday 9th Sunday 11 of December weekends of you must be available at least one of these days.  

Our Songs Online Alternative  

If Our Songs is unable to go-ahead due to wet weather or for any unforeseen circumstance, we will release an Our Songs Mixtape like the Community Mixtape released in 2020.  

Songs will be complied into a mixed tape to be downloaded or streamed the through the Darebin Council website over summer.   

More information regarding the recordings for the mixtape will be provided to successful applicants.
