Are you a curator, dancer, drummer or choreographer with a knack for blending beats with movement?

FUSE – the City of Darebin’s contemporary, multi-arts festival – invites expressions of interest from curators, artists or artist groups to join us for Rhythm & Dance, a roaring, collaborative performance held during Out of the Park Picnic, the opening event of FUSE Autumn 2023.

We want your energy, colours, fabulousness, beats and moves to coalesce into an explosion of sound and movement.

This invitation has two components: a paid curatorial role and volunteer collaboration roles.

Read on for more details.

FUSE seeks expressions of interest for the Rhythm & Dance Curator-in-Residence role.

If you're dedicated to the spirit of the drum and can translate that into a community experience--plus you're connected to Darebin-based drummers and dancers--then we encourage you to apply.

As the Rhythm & Dance Curator-in-Residence, you will:

  • Provide a culturally safe environment for artists by demonstrating leadership in community engagement practices.
  • Work alongside FUSE to design the look and feel of the ten-to-fifteen-minute Rhythm & Dance session.
  • Lead two-to-three community jam sessions as rehearsals for the event.
  • Research, invite or commission other artists to perform as part of Rhythm & Dance.
  • Contribute to marketing for the event.
  • Work with and support volunteers, community leaders and artists, including oversight of payments, contracts and promotion.

MAV, our music programming partner, and FUSE will support the right candidate with mentoring, admin and production support. You will receive a $2,000 fee inclusive of all curatorial, performance fees and on-costs. You will also have access to a project budget and will work with FUSE and MAV to program other rhythm and dance performers.

To apply, please submit your application using this form. Applicants must reside within the City of Darebin (or have close connections to the area) and have a current Working with Children card.

Applications close Friday 8 December 2022. Short interviews will be conducted the following week.
