Molly Hadfield OAM Social Justice Oration 2021

Molly Hadfield OAM

Trawlwoolway artist Edwina Green and Wiradjuri writer, teacher and academic Jeanine Leane, respond to themes of social justice through creative expression.

The Molly Hadfield Social Justice Oration (MHSJO) is Council's annual event in recognition of local resident and community activist Molly Hadfield OAM and her contributions to a fairer and more inclusive society.

In 2021, instead of the traditional in-person event Council has commissioned an artist and writer to produce a written piece and a visual artwork inspired by themes of social justice. This work will be a celebration of Molly Hadfield’s legacy and be part of the Darebin Council's FUSE Digital program taking place from 4 – 19 September.

Edwina Green has been commissioned to produce a piece of art for exhibition as part the oration, titled “A Cheek, a wink”. The piece is a part of an on-going series that investigates the relationship between disconnection, grief, loss and translating this into shapes, thoughts, and abstraction of colonial records.

Jeanine Leane has been commissioned to produce a written piece as part of the oration that focuses on social justice through creative expression, which will accompany Edwina’s artwork. Jeanine’s contribution includes an Acknowledgement and poem titled Pause which Jeanine describes “in the spirit of activism addresses climate change, especially in relation to Australian water”.

Please join us in celebrating the legacy of Molly Hadfield.
